Catalog #: B107
Source Antibody: Rabbit polyclonal antibodies for both capture and
detection.
Test Format: DAS ELISA
Reactivity: This ELISA reacted with all Xcc isolates tested.
Reaction of the ELISA is strong. Optical Density at 405nm is
in a range of 1.300 - 2.800 depending on the bacterial titers in the samples
tested.
Sensitivity: Sensitivity of the ELISA is high. The
bacterium can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted at
1:810 - 1:2430.
Specificity: This test system reacts
negatively with Acidovorax avenae subsp. citrulli, Clavibacter
flaccumfaciens, C.
michiganensis subsp. insidiosus, C. m. subsp.
michiganensis, C. m. subsp. nebraskensis, C. m. subsp. sepedonicus, C. m. subsp.
tessellarius, Erwinia carotovora subsp. atroseptica,
E. c. subsp. carotovora, Erwinia chrysanthemi, E.
stewartii, Pseudomonas
syringae pv. phaseolicola, P. s. pv. syringae,
Ralstonia solanacearum, Xanthomonas campestris pv. citri, X. c. pv. diffenbachiae,
X. c. pv. pelargonii, X. c. pv. phaseoli,
and X. c. pv. vesicatoria. This test shows some cross-reaction with Xanthomonas
campestris pv. armoraciae (30-40%).
There is no cross reaction
with healthy plant tissues. Background is very low on all of the negative
control wells.
Application: The test can be used to detect Xcc in infected host
plants as well as in pure bacterial cultures.

Information About the Bacterium
Name: Xanthomonas
campestris pv. campestris
Acronym: Xcc
Synonyms:
Group/Genus: Xanthomonas
Host plants and Diseases: Black rot of crucifers
Symptoms: Large, yellow to dark brown lesions formed along
leaf margins. Also, plant dwarfing or wilting.
Bacterial Transmission: Seeds internally infected or
externally infected. Diseased plant residues on or in the ground.
Bacterial Infection: The pathogen invades the vascular tissue
of leaves, stalks, stumps and roots. A very small portion of infected
seeds or primary infection has the potential to induce epidemics during later
seasons. The secondary infection is caused by rain splash or irrigation
water.
