Reactivity:  This test system reacted with all of the isolates of PMMoV tested.  Reaction of the ELISA is relatively strong.  Optical Density at 405_nm is in a range of 1.000 - 2.480 depending on the virus titer in the samples tested.

Sensitivity:  Sensitivity of the ELISA is very high.  The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted at 1:2430.

Specificity:  There is no cross reaction found with healthy plant tissues.  Background is low on the negative control wells.

Application:  The test can be used to detect PMMoV in infected host plants.

Virus Infection:  Pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV) has been  found in many countries throughout the world, including North America, Europe, and Japan.  PMMoV infects pepper and causes mottling on leaves, fruit deformation, and stunted growth.  Pepper infection by the virus can be as high as 100% and induces significant reductions in the quantity of sellable fruits.  PMMoV is readily transmitted by mechanical contact and by PMMoV-infected seed coats.
