Reactivity:  This test system reacted with all virus isolates tested.  Reaction of the ELISA is moderately strong.  Optical Density at 405_nm  is in a range of 1.000 - 1.800 depending  on the virus titer in the samples tested.

Sensitivity:  Sensitivity of the ELISA is very high.  The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted  at 1:2430 - 1:7290.

Specificity:  There is no cross reaction with healthy cabbage, cauliflower and other cruciferous plant  tissues.  Background is moderately low on the negative control wells.

Application:  The test can be used to detect CaMV in infected cabbage, cauliflower and other cruciferous plants.

Name:  Cauliflower Mosaic Virus
Acronym:  CaMV
Synonyms:  Broccoli mosaic virus, Brassica virus 3, cabbage mosaic virus, cabbage virus B, chinese cabbage Virus.  
Group/Genus:  Caulimoviruses

Vector:  Aphids, a number of aphid species.
Transmission:  No seed transmission
Main host plants:  Broccoli, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, cauliflower.

Virus Infection:  Cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) is a DNA virus with  isometric particles.  CaMV infects many different cruciferous plants. Typical symptom in cauliflower is mosaic  But it can cause other symptoms on other infected host plants, such as infected cabbage showing black stippling on the head and vein clearing on the leaves.
