Catalog #:  V225
Source Antibody:  Rabbit polyclonal antibody for both capture and detection.
Test Format:  DAS ELISA

Reactivity:  The test reacted with all WTV isolates tested. Reaction of the ELISA is moderate strong.  Optical Density at 405nm  is in arrange of 0.830 - 2.760 depending on the virus titer in the samples tested.

Sensitivity:  Sensitivity of the ELISA is moderate high.  The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted at 1:810.

Specificity:  There is no cross reaction with healthy plant  tissues such as clover and other host plants. Background is relative low on all of  the negative control wells.

Application:  The test can be used to detect WTV in infected host plants.

Information About the Virus

Name:  Clover Wound Tumor Virus
Acronym:  WTV
Synonyms: wound tumor virus, clover big vein virus, Aureogenus magnivena virus, Trifoliumvirus nervicrassans virus
Group/Genus:  Phytoreovirus

Vector:  Transmitted by a vector; an insect; Agalliopsis novella, Agallia constricta, A. quadripunctata; Cicadellidae. Not transmitted by Aceratagallia sanguinolenta. Transmitted in a persistent manner. Virus retained when the vector moults; multiplies in the vector; transmitted congenitally to the progeny of the vector (2% of vector eggs). not transmitted by mechanical inoculation; not transmitted by seed.
Transmission: Not transmitted by mechanical inoculation; not transmitted by seed.
Main natural host plants: Trifolium incarnatum, Melilotus officinalis.

Virus Infection: Causes irregular vein enlargement on the abaxial surface of leaves, depression of veins on the adaxial surface, root tumours at bases of lateral roots. Symptoms persist.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms:
Trifolium incarnatum - systemic infection, and quantitative assays using vector cell monolayers.

Geographical distribution: Spreads in the North American region.
