Reactivity:  The test reacted with all SrMV isolates tested. Reaction of the ELISA is moderate strong.  Optical Density at 405_nm  is in arrange of 0.600 - >2.850 depending on the virus titer in the samples tested.

Sensitivity:  Sensitivity of the ELISA is relative high.  The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted  at 1:810.

Specificity:  There is no cross reaction with healthy plant  tissues such as sorghum or other host plants. Background is low on all of  the negative control wells.

Application:  The test can be used to detect SrMV in infected host plants.

Vector: Transmitted by a vector; an insect; Aphididae. Transmitted in a non-persistent manner
Transmission:  Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation.
Main natural host plants: Saccharum officinarum, Sorghum bicolor.

Virus Infection:  Symptoms include mosaic and red-leaf.
Susceptible hosts and symptoms: This virus is one of a complex of potyviruses infecting tropical grasses. These have been shown by immunoblot and virion protein sequencing to fall into four species; maize dwarf mosaic, sugarcane mosaic, sorghum mosaic and Johnson grass mosaic.
