Catalog #:  V180
Source Antibody:  Rabbit polyclonal antibody for both capture and detection.
Test Format:  DAS ELISA

Reactivity:  The test reacted with all RHBV isolates tested. Reaction of the ELISA is moderate strong.  Optical Density at 405nm  is in arrange of 0.600 - 2.400 depending  on the virus titer in the samples tested.

Sensitivity:  Sensitivity of the ELISA is moderate high.  The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted  at 1:810.

Specificity:  There is no cross reaction with healthy plant  tissues such as rice and other host plants. Background is relative low on all of  the negative control wells.

Application:  The test can be used to detect RHBV in infected host plants.

Information About the Virus

Name:  Rice Hoja Blanca Virus
Acronym:  RHBV
Synonyms:  echinochloa hoja blanca virus (Falk et al., 1987)
Group/Genus:  Tenuivirus

Vector:  Transmitted by a vector; an insect; Sogatodes orizicola; Delphacidae. Transmitted in a persistent manner. Virus retained when the vector moults; multiplies in the vector; transmitted congenitally to the progeny of the vector.
Transmission: Virus not transmitted by mechanical inoculation; not transmitted by contact between plants; not transmitted by seed.
Main host plants:  Oryza sativa, wild Oryza spp.

Virus Infection:  Cause symptoms of systemic necrosis, systemic chlorotic striping in early infections.  Symptoms persist.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms:
Avena sativa, Digitaria spp., Hordeum vulgare, Leptochloa spp., Oryza sativa cv. Bluebonnet-50, Secale cereale, Triticum aestivum - chlorotic stripes.

Geographical distribution: Spreads in the South and Central American region; Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela (and elsewhere in the Caribbean). Found, but with no evidence of spread, in the U.S.A.
