Source Antibody: Rabbit polyclonal antibody for both capture and
detection.
Test Format: DAS ELISA
Reactivity: The test reacted with all PVMV isolates tested. Reaction of the ELISA is moderate strong. Optical Density at 405nm is in arrange of 0.700 - 2.600 depending on the virus titer in the samples tested.
Sensitivity: Sensitivity of the ELISA is moderate high. The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted at 1:810.
Specificity: There is no cross reaction with healthy plant tissues such as pepper and other host plants. Background is low on all of the negative control wells.
Application: The test can be used to detect PVMV in infected host plants.

Information About the Virus
Name: Pepper Veinal Mottle Virus
Acronym: PVMV
Synonyms:
Group/Genus: Potyviruses
Vector: Transmitted by a vector; an insect; Aphis gossypii, A.
spiraecola, Myzus persicae, Toxoptera citricidus; Aphididae. Transmitted in
a non-persistent manner.
Transmission: Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation; transmitted by
grafting; not transmitted by contact between plants.
Main host plants: Capsicum annuum, C. frutescens, Datura
stramonium, Lycopersicon esculentum.
Virus Infection: mottle, leaf shape malformation, mosaic,
fruit malformation, with spine suppression, and necrotic or chlorotic
spots and streaks. Symptoms persist.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms: Chenopodium
amaranticolor, C. foetidum - local chlorotic or necrotic ringspots;
Capsicum annuum, C. frutescens - systemic mosaic, mottle and leaf shape
malformation; Nicotiana clevelandii, N. megalosiphon, N. occidentalis,
Physalis angulata, P. floridana - systemic mosaic. Nicotiana tabacum
cv. Dutch A - local necrotic or chlorotic ringspots.
Geographical distribution: Spreads in Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa.
