Reactivity:  This test system detects all isolates or strains of virus.  Reaction of the ELISA is relatively strong.  Optical Density at 405_nm  is in a range of 0.800 - 2.600 depending  on the virus titer in the samples tested.

Sensitivity:  Sensitivity of the ELISA is relatively high.  The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant leaf tissues diluted  at 1:810.

Specificity:  There is no cross reaction with healthy plant tissues.  Background is very low on all of the negative control wells.

Application:  The test can be used to detect LMV in infected host plants.

Name:  Lettuce Mosaic Virus
Acronym:  LMV
Synonyms:  Lactuca virus 1, Marmor lactucae.
Group/Genus:  Potyviruses

Vector:  Transmitted by a vector; an insect; Aphis gossypii, Macrosiphum euphorbiae, M. gei, Myzus persicae; Aphididae. Transmitted in a non-persistent manner.
Transmission:  Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation; transmitted by seed (3-10%); transmitted by pollen to the seed.
Main host plants:  Lettuce

Viral Particle:  Filamentous particle, containing RNA genome.
Virus Infection:   Lettuce mosaic virus (LMV) causes leaf mosaic, vein band and plant stunting in infected lettuce.  LMV is transmitted by aphids in non-persistent manner.  Rates of seed transmission is about 10 percent.

Geographical distribution: Probably distributed worldwide (wherever Lactuca sativa is grown).
