Reactivity:  The test reacted with all BaMMV isolates tested. Reaction of the ELISA is very strong.  Optical Density at 405_nm  is in arrange of 1.100 - >3.000 depending on the virus titer in the samples tested.

Sensitivity:  Sensitivity of the ELISA is high.  The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted  at 1:810 - 1:2430.

Specificity:  There is no cross reaction with healthy plant  tissues such as barley, corn or other host plants. Background is low on all of  the negative control wells.

Application:  The test can be used to detect BaMMV in infected host plants.

Name:  Barley Mild Mosaic Virus

Vector:  Transmitted by a vector; a fungus; Polymyxa graminis (Mastigomycotina); Plasmodiophorales. Principal natural vector(s): Polymyxa graminis.
Transmission: Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation; not transmitted by contact between plants; not transmitted by seed; not transmitted by pollen.
Main natural host plants: Hordeum vulgare.

Virus Infection:  Symptoms vary seasonally, in winter or early spring only. Symptoms yellow streaks, brown necrosis. Leaves may roll making the plant look `spiky'.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms: Hordeum vulgare, Lagurus ovatus, Eremopyrum hirsutum, Aegilops kotschyi, A. searsii, A. speltoides - systemic leaf streaking.

Geographical distribution: Spreads in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, and the UK.
