Test Format: TAS ELISA
Reactivity: The test detects all known isolates of BYDV-mav. Reaction of the ELISA is moderately strong. Optical Density at 405nmis in a range of 0.600 - 1.600 depending on the virus titer in the samples tested.
Sensitivity: Sensitivity of the ELISA is moderately high. The virus can be consistently detected in infected plant tissues diluted at 1:270.
Specificity: This test system does cross-react with isolates of
BYDV-pav. There is no obvious cross
reaction with healthy plant tissues such as barley and
wheat. Background is moderate low on the negative control wells.
Application: The test can be used to detect BYDV-mav in infected barley, wheat and oats.

leaf virus.

Vector: Aphid
Transmission:
Main host plants: Barley, wheat, oats, and many grasses.
Virus Infection: Barley yellow dwarf virus-mav has isometric particles which contain RNA genome. Virus is transmitted by the aphid, M. avenae in the persistent manner, but not transmitted by mechanical inoculation or by seed. It infects cereal crops such as barley, wheat, and oats worldwide.
BYDV-mav belongs to BYDV group I which also includes pav and sgv.
